Take the ‘War on Iraq’ IQ test

As the time for war approaches, no matter who protests and however loudly… I thought we might want to review some facts…

One key concern which I hope comes across from the IQ test is not to do with the rightness or wrongness of a war with Iraq (followed by another with Iran and then another with Syria). Rather, it is to consider how awesomely enormous is U.S. military spending, both in dollar-terms and in terms of a proportion of world and U.S. spending on other things. It’s staggering. Particularly given that nation’s lame excuse for a healthcare system and welfare safety net.

After taking the test you might like to go read the U.S.’s National Security paper, which clearly outlines what is one of the U.S.’s worst-kept secrets: an intention to so dominate the globe militarily that no other nation state ever comes close to it in power and reach.

Is this not something to think about carefully? Is it not a little unsettling, at the very least, that in this day and age, one nation on the globe should explicitly and aggressively seek after “empire”? Does it not seem strange that at a time in history when all the talk is about scaling back on weapons of mass destruction, the U.S. is actually preparing to militarise space… for what it calls “full-spectrum dominance”?

The U.S. strategy to “dominate the globe” is what some have called the “Pax Americana”, after the Pax Romana of two millennia ago. Tom Sine, noted Christian author, takes this theme up in this excellent little essay.

Anyway, these thoughts and the IQ test to keep your thinking sharp and your noggin chugging over the issues.

Incidentally, did you know even President Bush’s dad reckons his son is going too far?!

Also, one or two friends have commented that these posts of mine are consistently biased towards an anti-war position. My reply is that I have no intention of being balanced. No more than I see the mainstream media going for a balanced position in all this. I figure that if I present the “progressive”, “anti-war” position then it will counter, or attempt to bring a balance to everything else most of us ever hear. Hope that’s fine with you.
