Well, we’ve survived the first week!
Orientation week has been a nice slow week, and has given us planty of time to settle in and get used to the place. Our DTS crew includes a bunch of islanders - mostly from Fiji - and folks from as far and wide as Canada, New Zealand, Indonesia, Samoa, Korea and Reservoir (!).
We differ greatly in age and background, and I guess that’s just all part of the richness of it. It’s also a pretty busy place here in Surrey Hills, at the moment. There is also an LTS (Leadership Training School) here at the moment, which adds about 70 people to the base! Then next week is the YWAM National Leaders Meeting which means this base will have something like 150 people on it!!
When I came here, or at least in anticipation of coming here, I really wanted to make it a personal goal to get into the Word of God, and I was thrilled to see that that has indeed been made a special focus of this DTS. We’re reading minimum 7 chapters a day and I’m on target so far. At this rate, I’ll have read the entire Bible by October! Yay!
On another note, the base here wants to install a wireless LAN, so I’ve got a meeting later today with Terry Winters to talk about that, and how it might be funded. Also, there are 80 or so ex-Ansett PCs for auction and I have Gary Grant helping us there! All very exciting. IT is a better “work-duty” than toilets any day!!
