My nephew emailed today asking if I knew of free equivalents to the tools I use as a web designer.
In case you’re wondering, I use tools like Homesite, Freestyle, Dreamweaver, Photoshop and ImageReady. And frankly, I spend most of my time in Homesite and ImageReady, which I’d be useless without! But I went a-looking around and was interested to see what was out there…
This is a supposed Dreamweaver equivalent. I assume it’s good - it looks it - but never used it. Anyone used it?
I have used Topstyle and this is the free Lite version, which is still very good. Anything by Bradbury is bound to be half decent!

Only it’s a code-based editor, not a WYSIWYG one. But I like it and have used it.
This is a free equivalent to Illustrator or CorelDraw, apparently:
But again I’ve not tried it. Let me know, anyone who has used it.
And finally, I also found this, which is a Photoshop replacement called GIMP.

This is a particular version of Gimp which apparently looks as close to Photoshop as possible (i.e. the menus, etc. have been ordered and made to look as close to Photoshop as possible).
Again, if anyone has used this and really loves it, I’d love a comment!
