On the 5th of this month, WebProNews introduced us to their new Video Reporter, a very attractive blonde lass called Nicole Eggers. The folks over at WPN have certainly picked a reporter who’s more than easy on the eye, but unfortunately she’s not easy on the ears. In fact, she’s downright hard to understand.
So please WPN, can you do Nicole a big favour and offer her some elocution lessons? Because her vocal clarity is killing it for me at the moment, and I suspect I’m not alone.
For sure, anyone coming to English as their second language is really going to be struggling.
Did I mention she’s gorgeous?!

she’s purdy… but yes, hard to understand..
I think part of it’s nerves though – she’s speaking too fast, slurring her words and has a fairly strong American accent
It also sounds like she doesn’t understand all of the things she’s reading/saying. I didn’t see anything about internet marketing in her bio – but I could be wrong.
I think she’ll get it in time though. As she learns her content and becomes more comfortable in the chair, she’ll relax. As she relaxes, she’ll talk slower. As she talks slower, she’ll form her words better, be easier to understand, and will do a better job.
I don’t want to can the poor girl on her first day on the job.

Interesting. She seems to have a bit of a southern drawl. I also experience her as talking ‘at’ me or ‘down to me.’
I got to agree with Brent that she really should practice reading a teleprompter so that it doesn’t appear that she’s reading. Watch any newcast and she can get the idea.
Is she attractive, sure. Does it matter – not really.
It’s more of an Appalachian twang, really, instead of a southern drawl — a Kentucky thing — and yeah, they do tend to jumble up their words at times.
However I think its immensely funny to hear an Australian complain about somebody’s accent…heh…never have gotten through a convo with an Aussie w/o going “what was that?”
Yes she is a very beautiful women. I think as time comes she will get better and better at reporting. I am sure this is her first try at this type of thing. WebProNews is based in Kentucky, hence the southern drawl.
Yeah, she’s pretty bad. I cringed on her earlier casts.
WPN could pull about a hundred thousand film or journalism coeds from colleges around the US who are just as hot, easier to understand, and don’t sound like Billy the bumbling 5th grade reader.
You know the one … reading slowly, sounding out words he doesn’t understand, and pausing at the end of each line instead of at the end of sentences.
My prediction: we’ll see her in some “chicks of the net” Maxim issue in 9 months.
Hey I really don’t want her “removed”… I want her “improved”! I think she’s got what it takes to make it, no worries… except the vocal refinements, and that’s the point of this post.
Elocutions lessons, if you’re going to be in her “game”, are part and parcel of the training. Especially if you have her “sloppy” speech.
If she can get that sorted out, she’s going to be great

As a Canadian, I also hear the heavy American accent. It isn’t so much that, however, as the ‘nasal pushing’ that makes it hard for me. Many of her words end up coming out the nose or the breath is ‘dragged’ through the nose in a raspy sort of way..
Poor girl – I can’t imagine the number of people critiquing her around the world now.. hehe

Bear in mind that it’s winter in the US at the moment. When summer arrives (along with her new wardrobe), belive me no one will really care if she’s speaking Chinese.
