Four years later and this is still as relevant as when it was written. With only one opportunity to make a good first impression, the site better look good and have the content visiting consumers want, otherwise they will quickly move on.

I could not agree with you more. There is nothing more important than an 1st impression. It takes a reader about 10 seconds to figure out if they want to stay on the page or not.

this is definitely the area where I am weak. Trying to learn how to do all of this on my own I notice that my sites are a weak point in my internet business. I don’t think they are the worst I have seen but they are lacking something that is for sure. I guess it is time to, as you say, “at the very least hire a designer to pick a wordpress theme”. At the same time I LOVE learning as much as I can about all of this stuff! Thanks for the info!

There is no question that visual appeal on a blog is very important. The look of a home page is important but even more so is the actual articles themselves. So many blogs fail to use graphics and other tools that can help keep a reader interested.

I think that most sites are developed today based on predefined themes and platforms, so CRAP does not play a role as it did before.

Content may be king, but first impressions are everything. When I visit a new site or blog, if the design is bad I never make it to the content.
