I’ve spent the last four hours or so upgrading to the latest Wordpress (off SVN). I’m now running 2.3 beta2. Thanks to an in-built tagging system, I have done away with UTW , which was running like a dog, due to (known) database issues. I’ve also spent ages checking and updating plugins… many of which (may) have issues with Wordpress 2.3. Watch out for that!

you were wondering... I believe in rewarding commenters!
Did you also update to Sandbox 1.0 or stick with and modify your original conversion?
I have 2.3 beta 2 on a test system currently, I know this is a time consuming process
I’ve installed the beta for testing currently only but didn’t run into problems with the plugins I installed, so far it appears to be running quite smoothly. I must admit though that you do have a whole lot of plugins which I am not using :P.
The tagging system built in definitely is great though, a warm welcomed feature. Going to wait a bit though before upgrading my blog itself to 2.3, bringing it along directly with quite a bunch of other big changes.
I know it’s an ongoing process, but for your benefit, I noticed that the UTW tags are still present on this page, and it returns an error.

I would love to know which plugins we can spare by using WP 2.3 - obviously UTW can go, that’s a good thing.
Any more plugins integrated to core ?
Built-in tagging?! Awesome! I have been thinking about adding a tagging plugin to my site but I think I will hold off now for the official 2.3 release. Thanks for the heads up!
Errrgggh!
I just spent 5 hours editing my theme to display Ultimate Tag Warrior tags where I wanted them and how I wanted them without breaking my layout. And I’m not even done yet.
But in a couple of months I’ll be getting my own domain and new host so I’ll be able to upgrade then and take my time getting it right before I close down the old site.
Looking forward to learning more about 2.3.
Thank for the heads up.
Did you loose all your tags and have to rebuild them, or did they somehow transfer into the new wordpress?
I was getting tired of UTW always erasing my tags everytime I approved a comment. Looking forward to the new version of wordpress.
That is great news. I hate using Ultimate Tag Warrior.
@Andy - mate, I stuck with my original conversion. I plan to make the leap at some time, which should be pretty easy, but I’ve left that for another day.
@Nathan - thanks buddy, I missed that one. Will get to it asap.
@Matt - the only one that I saw newly integrated was UTW (sort of) with the new native tagging (taxonomy thingy). There may be others, but not that I was using.
@Brent - there is a very good UTW-specific importer in Wordpress 2.3. It worked without a hitch (I tested it first!).
One thing on plugins…
It may be that more plugins will/would break after deleting the tables in the database that are no longer used in Wordpress 2.3. I have left those tables there. I figured it was easier for now to do that.
http://www.boren.nu has more on schema changes in 2.3 if you need to know…
