Google to host Web UI javascript libraries. Appcelerator too??

This is a great idea! I don’t want to get into all the technical reasons for it, but for a host of reasons, I think it’s a great idea for Google to host the most popular script libraries like script.aculo.us, Prototype, jQuery and Dojo. The only other one I really want to see there is Appcelerator. Hmm… I wonder if Jeff Haynie agrees?

Why is this a good idea? If you’re competent to use JS libraries you should be competent to upload them to your own site. Is this some play for Google to learn more about traffic trends or something?

It’s not a bad idea, if people want to use it, they can but no-one’s forcing them to.

Alister – you should really remove the “u comment i follow” logo since you don’t. How does no-following “reward commenters (sic)” exactly?

Thanks Rich. I turned the plugin off that made no-follows “follows” only on the 12th… after spending the most of an hour with a commenter on Skype, trying to work out why his comment wasn’t showing up. Turns out the plugin has a bad regular expression or something and was killing the display of his comment, in its entirety. I must get a new plugin that does that, so thanks for the reminder.

    Nathan,

The point is caching. It means someone comes to your site and there’s every likelihood that they’ve already got at least those JS lib files cached already, from whenever they last visited any other site that uses those same files.

Sure, it’s got some sort of a point, for Google, selfishly, perhaps, but thinking just in terms of caching, I think it’s great.

I had few things up in my mind.. As everyone knows there are lots of web hosting agencies spread around, its a matter of fact to buy a domain and host them over WWW. However i took HUGE amount of time spending in debugging few bugs myself. While there are better services like Marble Host which provides web hosting as well as assistance in web design and service, I feel now, i could have better used it!

I too think it’s a great idea for caching – I’m sure at the end of the day Google has a more competitive reason to have it 🙂
